# Arizona Road Test Waiver vs MVD Test — What You Need to Know

Arizona allows certain driving schools to offer a Road Test Waiver. This means if you pass your final road test with a certified school, you can skip the MVD road test entirely. This saves time, reduces stress, and gets you licensed faster. Here is everything you need to know about how it works.

What Is the Road Test Waiver?

The Road Test Waiver is exactly what it sounds like: a waiver that lets you bypass the official MVD road test. When you complete your training with a certified driving school and pass their final road test, the school submits proof to the MVD. You then receive a certificate that qualifies you for a license without ever setting foot in an MVD testing line.

Why Skip the MVD Test?

The MVD road test has a few downsides. You have to schedule it weeks in advance. You have to provide your own insured vehicle. You have to deal with the stress of testing in an unfamiliar car with a government examiner you have never met.

With the Road Test Waiver, you test in the same car you trained in, with an instructor who knows your progress. You avoid the scheduling headaches and the MVD lines.

How to Qualify

To use the Road Test Waiver, you must:

1. Hold a valid Arizona learner's permit

2. Complete the required training hours with a certified driving school

3. Pass the school's final road test

4. Meet the minimum age requirements for licensing

At Deer Valley Driving School, the Road Test Waiver is included with our License-Ready Package ($680, 10 hours) and Ultimate Package ($1,299, 20 hours). Once you pass your final road test with us, we handle the paperwork and you take your certificate to the MVD to get your license.

Can You Complete Lessons Before the Permit Waiting Period Ends?

Yes. Arizona requires teen drivers to hold their permit for six months before getting a license. However, you can complete all your driving lessons and even pass your final road test before that six months is up. Your results are banked and ready when the waiting period ends.

Is the Waiver Recognized Everywhere?

The Road Test Waiver is an official Arizona MVD program. It is recognized at all Arizona MVD offices. When you present your certificate, you get your license the same as if you had passed the MVD road test.
