Deer Valley Driving School

Get your permit in 3 steps.

We texted you this link because you don't have your permit yet. Follow these steps — then come back and book your first lesson.

Do these 3 steps in order, then book your first lesson.

Step 1

Gather your documents

Before you go to the MVD, make sure you have everything. Missing one doc = wasted trip.

  • Proof of identity (birth certificate, passport, or state ID)
  • Proof of Arizona residency (school records, utility bill, or bank statement)
  • Social Security number (card or document showing it)
  • Parental/guardian consent form if under 18 — Download form (PDF)
  • $7 permit fee (cash or card)

Requirements can change — confirm at azdot.gov

Step 2

Study for the written test

Most people pass after a few days of focused review. Use official materials and aim for 90%+ on practice tests before you go.

Arizona Driver Manual

The official manual. Read it cover to cover — it's shorter than you think.

Free Practice Tests

Timed practice tests. Aim for 90%+ before booking the real thing.

Step 3

Take the permit test

There are two ways. Pick the one that applies to you.

UNDER 18 — RECOMMENDED

Online Permit Test @ Home

Take the written test online at home with a parent — no MVD visit, no line. Log in at ServiceArizona.com and test from your couch.

18 OR OLDER

Visit an MVD or Third-Party

Test in-person at any MVD or third-party provider. Third-party locations are almost always faster — search 'MVD third party [your city]'.

Got your permit? You're ready.

Come back here and book your first behind-the-wheel lesson. Pickup and drop-off included.
